The Water Saving Tip Challenge
Summer’s creeping in, and while that means sunshine, it also means less water to go around!
The average person uses 140 litres a day, but with major water shortages predicted by the 2080s, it’s time to get smart about conservation. Every drop counts!
Saving water protects our environment, builds stronger communities, and helps fight climate change.
The Top Tips this month were:
I only boil as much water as approximately needed in the kettle, but I make sure the element is covered - always! If there is still something left over, I empty the contents into a flask to keep it hot and re-use it next time, that way I save electricity too.
All water from rinsing fruit and vegetables inclusive cooking water goes straight from the washing-up bowl onto selected plants, every time I do it I choose different plants, so no area misses out in the long run! If it is raining and no watering is needed, I have got 5 watering cans standing neat to the kitchen door so I empty the contents into those cans ready for the next dry period!
Thank you so much to Dagmar from Somerset for submitting these.
Also well done to Anita from Hertford who won the £20 voucher in our monthly prize draw.
All the tips received are below. Thank you to everyone who contributed!

I re-use cooking water for watering, and keep showering time short!

Use a water butt to collect the rain water, and then use to water the plants!
