You’re invited: Public Living Rooms at the BIG Community Conversation

We’re pleased to bring Public Living Rooms (PLRs) to our communities - starting with their launch at the BIG Community Conversation.

Created in partnership with the social movement Camerados, alongside Peabody and Clarion Housing Group, Public Living Rooms are all about people, connection and community. They offer a simple but powerful idea: a friendly space where anyone can drop in, be themselves, and spend time with others - with no judgement, no pressure and no agenda.

Whether you feel like chatting, listening, or just sitting quietly with others around you, you’re welcome.

BONUS! SNG's CEO, Mark Washer will also be there for a sit down, cuppa and a chat with customers!

Why Public Living Rooms matter

Life can be tough, and many people experience loneliness, stress or feeling overwhelmed at different times. Public Living Rooms offer something refreshingly human:

  • A place to belong

No referrals, no forms, and no expectations - just a warm, open door.

  • Mutual support, not fixing

Camerados describe this as “looking out for each other, not fixing each other”. It’s about shared understanding and kindness, rather than advice or solutions.

  • A boost to wellbeing

Spending time with others and feeling connected is proven to reduce stress, loneliness and anxiety.

  • Stronger communities

PLRs help neighbours meet, talk, and build trust - laying the foundations for stronger local relationships.

  • Bringing people together

At a time when communities can feel divided or polarised, PLRs create space for connection, understanding and simple human contact.

For us, Public Living Rooms fit closely with our commitment to creating thriving, resilient communities where people feel supported, valued and empowered.

What is the BIG Community Conversation?

The BIG Community Conversation is a relaxed, informal event where customers and colleagues come together to connect, share ideas and learn more about what’s available to them.

At the event, you can:

  • have friendly conversations with other customers
  • chat informally with SNG colleagues and ask questions about our services
  • find out how you can have your say, share feedback and get involved in shaping your community
  • enjoy a FREE cream tea and a chance to sit down for a cuppa with CEO Mark Washer

You don’t need to prepare anything or commit to anything - just come along, say hello, and take part in whatever feels right for you.

When and where

Wednesday 6 May | 12pm – 3pm

Public Living room sit down begins 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Archer Tower, Homerton, Hackney, London, E9 6FG

Drop in for a short visit or stay for the whole afternoon - everyone is welcome, and we’d love to see you there.
