Jackie Dunn attends the G15 Stigma report Launch
By Jackie Dunn – Chair of Customer Influence Panel (CIP)
On the 14th January 2024 I attended the launch of a report commissioned by the G15* at the Houses of Parliament, Westminster on Taking the Stigma out of Social Housing: The Residents View.
The event was sponsored by Ben Coleman, MP for Chelsea and Fulham. All Chief Executive Officers (CEO) were invited, and I am happy to report that our Deputy CEO, Helen Evans, attended as well as Ilona Ames a SNG resident that lives within London. MPs and members of the House of Lords had the opportunity to drop in too.
Ben Coleman gave an informative introduction on how and why the report came to be commissioned and the work, aims and ambitions of the G15. This was followed by the Chair of the G15 group Daisy Armstrong who gave a brief outline of the report and the importance of stamping out stigma within social housing, breaking the stereotypes and being seen as a vital part of a fairer, more inclusive society.
Following Daisy, the CEO of London and Quadrant Housing Association, Fiona Fletcher-Smith spoke about Housing Associations engaging with their residents.
Finally, Florence Eshalomi, Chair of the Select Committee for Housing, Communities and Local Government and MP for Kennington, Camberwell and Vauxhall gave the closing speech drawing on her own personal experience of living in Social Housing and the need for change. She urged all Housing Associations to step up when engaging with, working with and listening to residents.
Once the speakers had finished there was time to network with MPs, Baroness and Lords, CEOs of G15 Housing Associations and of course fellow resident representatives.
