This month, we’re celebrating National Allotments Week(12–18 August) by launching a fresh new challenge: “Show Us What You’re Growing!”
Whether you’ve got a windowsill herb garden, a backyard veggie patch, or a full-blown allotment, we want to see it! Growing your own food is a brilliant way to live more sustainably, reduce food miles, and reconnect with nature.
How to take part:
Snap a photo of what you’re growing—plants, produce, or even your setup and send it to us at engagement@sng.org.uk
Tell us a little about your growing journey or what you’re most proud of below.
Why it matters:
Homegrown food reduces packaging and transport emissions
It supports biodiversity and pollinators
It’s a great way to relax and boost wellbeing
Let’s inspire each other to get growing this August!
Here’s some of the things you were growing in August!
Chives (onion and garlic) which we use on top of homemade pizzas along with home grown Oregano.
Lettuce in a window box, which we use in sandwiches and salads.
Blackberries from a thornless blackberry that I planted a couple of years ago. We have blackberry crumble, blackberries in porridge and with ice cream.
Apples from a small apple tree. We plan to get some stepover apples in the future so we can have homegrown apples for a longer period of time.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and sent in photos!
